| Comments: | I too was in the Royal Engineers and my first posting was to 30 field squadron in 1972. I know the name Dinsdale from your photo's but cannot rember his first name. I was in five troop and had tours to Canada, and Ireland while I was there. I was posted to 521 STRE in Hampshire. This team used to drill for drinking water all over the world. I finally left the army in 1978 and am happy to be in civie street. I do often think of my days in the Royal Engineers and it always brings back fond memories. | Comments: | Looking for Norman MARSHALL who I met in Egypt Dec 1949 when we both were posted in to 43 Survey Engineer Regt FAYID. He was with the British Military mission in Greece which was folded up at that time and I was posted from 36 AER Maidstone, Kent. Norman, his nick name 'Ike' (after General Eisenhower ! ) was the camp's 'sparks' and our messing NCO, he was a whizz kid at getting over and above generous quantities of fresh fruit, eggs locally on a limited budget, and yet wore the most expensive tailored made suits and jackets which would have done Saville Road proud ! Last saw Ike in the 'House at Home' pub in Maidstone in 1953 and would dearly love to meet up with him Many thanks Terry Kelly I worked in the photo-cartographic section until Sept 51, the period when the local natives rioted. I only joined the Corps in 1976 but recognise a few faces from the 30sqn days as i served in 5 sqn at Iserlohn from early '81.I am a police officer now having done the 12yrs 45days in the ranks at 20sqn 77-81 5sqn 81-84 finally 521stre at Barton Stacey.2 faces of note on the cadre photo are WO2 Dave Mckeague who was my SSM in 5 sqn.He is now a civvie working for Kent Police in Folkestone/Dover area and i've yet to bump into him! The other is my old buddie who i joined 76/13 trg party with Ged Coward who's an ex 30Sqn man (boxer)from 76-81.Served with him again at MWF when it moved from B.Stacey up to Nottingham in 1986.We hammered a bit of golf just before i joined the old bill in 1989.Thats the last time i saw him before i heard he died of a heart attack whilst doing something he loved -rugby! Looking at your photos the lad you name as Geordie Craddock was in fact Neil (can't recall his surname) He was in our section in Derry I think he was a driver by trade.Over the next few months I'll try and dig out some photos for you and recall some names. I noticed that someone was looking for Smellie i can't be sure but I was told he died about 10 or 12 years ago (do,t know if this is true or not.
